A letter from our co-founder.
You know that feeling of being a kid in a candy store? For me, that was the snack aisle. I grew up surrounded by endless options, and my go-to was always a bag of sour cream and onion chips. The problem was, all those processed snacks left me feeling overweight and honestly, not very good.
That feeling stuck with me and sparked a lifelong passion for helping others with their nutrition. I spent years working in health tech and on children's health initiatives, but I realized something important: if we want to make a real, lasting change, we need better options right there on the grocery store shelves. That's when I started thinking about my own Chinese heritage.
My mom grew up during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, a time when finding good food was a real struggle. She told me stories about how sweet potato snacks were a source of genuine nourishment for her. They were simple, made from a whole food, and gave her real, lasting energy—nothing like the empty calories I was used to.
Inspired by her stories, I started experimenting in my own kitchen. I wanted to see if I could take those traditional recipes and create a uniquely chewy and delicious sweet potato snack without any of the bad stuff. After a lot of trial and error, I created something I’m really proud of: Yammy.
It’s the simplest snack you can imagine, made from just one ingredient, but it’s also incredibly delicious. My hope is that Yammy can help you feel satiated, satisfied, and truly nourished, one sweet potato at a time.
Sincerely,
